About Art Road Nonprofit

Art Road provides special arts activity classes, including supplies and an instructor, at no cost to elementary schools that lack art programs.

The classes are single- or multi-day sessions that introduce children to the work of artists, provide historical perspective, and bring the entire experience into focus with hands-on creative arts projects such as painting, drawing, sculpture or mixed media.

There are benefits for all children with Art Road classes: increased interest in school, improved test scores, better problem solving skills, a creative outlet to pressure from family or peers, and a sense of pride and accomplishment.

Art Road currently teaches at Edison Elementary School, the Charles Wright Academy of Arts & Science, and the Charles L. Spain Elementary School in Detroit.

In January 2014 Art Road through a grant from the Max M. & Marjorie S. Fisher Foundation brought our Art Program and art classes back to Charles L. Spain Elementary School (Beaubien & Mack).

In 2011 Art Road Nonprofit brought it's art program to 400 students at the Charles H. Wright Academy of Arts and Science in Detroit for the 2011/2012 school year.

We are able to teach 800 students art class twice per month currently at Edison and Charles Wright.

Art Road Nonprofit is now providing art classes to 800 students for the 2011/2012 school year!

With the help of Mercedes-Benz Financial Services, we were able to renovate the art room by refinishing the floors and rehabilitating an old unused greenhouse attached to the art room at Edison Elementary.  Mercedes-Benz Financial Services, in August 2011, landscaped the front of Charles Wright, installed seven new benches and painted an 85 ft mural in the school.

Our students range in age from 6 to 12. And class sizes are large- about 30 students per class. This presents a challenge for the teacher since 40 kids would be a lot to manage especially with active art in the room.

So we supplement the teacher with volunteers who help distribute the project and answer questions. Perhaps you have an interest in volunteering.

Students create art with the help of the teacher who usually is a practicing professional artist. Our students regularly produce work that exceeds standards set forth by the Michigan Educational standards.

Your gift to Art Road helps open young minds to the very real benefits of the arts with no expense to schools or parents.
