In Memory of Vince Lopez

Posted on Tuesday, 14 January 2014

Art Road mourns the sudden loss of Vince Lopez,
Lino Vincent Lopez Jr - Art Road's Best "Little Helper"

You were there from the beginning, a true part of our family. Always cheerful, kind, welcoming, and helpful. From smock drives, to luncheons, to all the special projects, you supported and helped us grow! You worked behind the scenes to help us accomplish the most beautiful works of art. It was never about you, it was always about bringing beauty and opportunity to those who needed it. You were always ready to lend a hand in anyway you could, with a cheerful smile and a true belief that you were helping to make our world a more beautiful place for the future! You succeeded!

More than our words can ever express, the beautiful art you helped us create will forever stand as a testament to who you were, what you believed, and the mark you've left on our world and our hearts!

We thank you, we love you, and we will always remember you... Fondly and with love... Donations in Memory of Lino Vincent Lopez Jr. will go towards Todd Patrick Kananen creating a signature art work with our Art Road students in memory of Vince Lopez. Todd Patrick Kananen, Art Road Board Member and active guest instructor is the Life Partner of Vince Lopez.

Kids in the Hood Photos - May 2013

Posted on Tuesday, 14 May 2013

"Kids in the Hood" Student Art Exhibition was held at the Heidelberg Project on May 11, 2013

Our Kids in the Hood event at the Number House was a great collaboration with the Heidelberg Project and celebration of students and their fabulous art!

Incredible sense of community through art as the neighborhood children came to paint shoes with Art Road and Heidelberg students, teachers and our Art Road/Heidelberg family.

School of Rock was rockin out as guests enjoyed SLOWS BAR BQ pulled pork and mac-n-cheese and Better Made chips all donated for the day. We are very grateful to our sponsors: Team Detroit, Suburban Collection Showplace, The Betty Kahn Fund and Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia. Thank you to our guests, Awesome ACO Volunteers and to Ashley, Ashley, Janet, Cathi, Katherine and Stephen with Art Road and to Tyree and Jenenne, The Heidelberg Project and to Margaret, Heidelberg Project ACE2 program!

Clement Brown, owner of the Fame Shop in Detroit and former Edison Elementary School Alumni was showing children and adults how to design t-shirts at our event. Clement donated his time because his business is all about art and he had art when he was at Edison Elementary School. Without our Art Road family bringing art class back to Edison, they would have no art in their curriculum. Thank you to our Art Road/Heidelberg Project Family!

Kandinsky Art instructed by Katherine Naini, Art Road Art Instructor

Posted on Monday, 22 April 2013

Ms. Edison's Fifth Grade Students created their colorful pastel ovals and learned about the artist, Wasslily Kandinsky.

With a bucket of pastels in the middle of each table, students reached in the bucket and picked out their first color.

Some students wanted to use every color in the bucket, while other students focused on two or three colors and repeated those colors over and over in their Kandinsky square.

Kandinsky was an influential Russian painter and art theorist. Later in life, he would recall being fascinated and stimulated by color as a child.

Art Road Mobile Art Classroom At VillageFest 2012

Posted on Tuesday, 11 September 2012

Thousands visited Grosse Pointe and saw Art Road's mobile classroom in action on Saturday September 8 and Sunday, September 9, 2012 (Mobile was located at 17150 Kercheval in front of the Grosse Pointe Panera).

LAUREN SANCYA, age 12 was a SHOE IN for our Grand Prize Winner for our Art Contest on the Art Road Mobile Art Classroom at the Art & Sole Festival during the VillageFest in downtown Grosse Pointe.

Hundreds of children came on board to the Art Road Mobile Art Classroom to make art on Saturday, September 8th from 11am until 7 pm and on Sunday, September 9th from noon until 5pm.

At 5pm on Saturday, our judges Lisa Amori, Jacquise Purifoy, Mary Fodell, Nancy Connors, David Santia, Casey Wise and Bob Vandenbergh came on board to judge the art contest.

Our judges debated on the style and sophistication of the art made by the children all day on the mobile.

Additional art contest winners were Mattea Gaines age 6, Natalie Lemmen age 6, Jack Ryan age 6, Paige Clarke age 7, Maggie Peitz age 9, Jackie Albo age 10, Zack Farrell age 10, Louis Happy age 13 and Kimberly Harvey age 14.

The Art Road Mobile Art Classroom is a 1,000 square foot art classroom on wheels that was donated for the two day event by MRA. MRA experiential tours & equipment is an industry leader in mobile exhibit and event marketing located in Madison Heights, Michigan.

We are introducing the mobile art classroom concept in hopes that individuals, corporations and foundations will see this as a vehicle to bring art class back to schools and sponsor the Art Road Mobile Art Classroom.

Formerly known as Grosse Pointe's Greatest Block Party, VillageFest, presented by Beaumont Health System, is the same late-summer community celebration, only better than ever! VillageFest features A Taste of Grosse Pointe; live music all weekend from the VillageFest Stage; The Art & Sole juried art fair; Kids on the Block "play pen," The Village Car Show with classics from all eras; casual sidewalk shopping from Village merchants; a Sunday afternoon "Pooch Parade" and a whole bunch more fun for the entire family! VillageFest covers the entire three block shopping district on Kercheval Avenue between Cadieux and Neff in The Village, Downtown Grosse Pointe. The Art & Sole Festival of Arts sponsored by Renewal by Andersen and is produced by Rainy Day Art & Framing Company.

Art Road Nonprofit's Mission is that children throughout Southeastern Michigan have access to art instruction. The sad fact is that more and more schools lack art in their curriculum.

To sponsor the Art Road Mobile Art Classroom please contact Carol Hofgartner at (313) 407-9805 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Currently, Art Road is brining art class back to 400 students at Edison Elementary School and to 800 students at Charles Wright Academy of Arts & Science for the entire school year. Both schools are public schools in Detroit that lack art in their curriculum.

Our hope is to be able to bring art class back to ten schools and get the mobile on the road to schools that lack art in their curriculum.

MRA experiential tours & equipment is an industry leader in mobile exhibit and event marketing. It specializes in custom design, vehicle assembly, and vehicle sales and leasing, as well as tour equipment and logistics-management services for the experiential marketing and exhibiting needs of museums and many Fortune 1000 firms, working either directly or in association with leading agencies and exhibit builders worldwide.  Visit the MRA website at
